What is mHBOT and how is it beneficial for animals?

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) is a treatment where animals breath in high concentrations of oxygen in a mildly pressurized chamber, with a pressure ≤ 30% greater than normal atmospheric pressure.

Oxygen is the essential energy producing element of life. It’s the cellular “fuel” in the body for optimal overall health and well-being. Many health problems and conditions can be contributed to an insufficient supply of oxygen.

What is mHBOT used for?

Humans use this therapy to help relieve symptoms of chronic illnesses, arthritis and pain relief, as well as anti-aging and overall wellness.

For animal applications, in addition to the above uses, mHBOT is also being used for various senior care aspects for its ability to rejuvenate and increase energy level, stress relief, and even for healthier skin and coat.

How much does mHBOT therapy cost?

There is no national average cost in the United States yet, as animal applications are new in the U.S.; however, the average cost in other countries is about $30-$50 USD per 30 min session.

What is a typical treatment like?

The animal is prepared and gently placed in the chamber after which oxygen is added to the chamber until a pressure of 3 psig is reached. When the treatment pressure is reached, ventilation will be increased for temperature and humidity control. The operator will continuously monitor of the patient through the treatment. Once the desired amount of time at the treatment pressure is accomplished, the chamber is then slowly depressurized until there is no pressure left in the chamber, the animal is then removed from the chamber and has post treatment checks.

Is mHBOT safe?

Pan-America Hyperbaric chambers are designed and manufactured according to American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes and standards. They also meet or exceed international regulations and standards as well. Hyperbaric therapy is to be administered by trained staff only. Although there are potentially minor risks involved, just like all medical treatments, when administered correctly, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy is extremely safe.

In addition to the hyperbaric chamber, what is needed to set up?

The PAHi team will gladly provide the specific requirements and assist each facility in the setup process. The main items required include: oxygen supply, exhaust, sufficient space to house the chamber, training on all aspects of hyperbarics and grounding installed by a licensed electrician.

Are there any side effects?

Like all medical treatments, side effects are possible, however, because of the low pressures involved in this therapy, side effects are extremely rare.
